Songdo Traffic Signal System Improvement:
IFEZ Authority to operate the traffic inter-operation system on the first half of this year.
IFEZ Authority expects to build a traffic signal inter-operation system in Songdo International City. IFEZ Authority announced on Jan. 5th 2012 its plans to complete the communication & crossroads improvement project needed for the traffic signal inter-operation system by allocating 28 billion KRW to the city. IFEZ Authority signed mutual-agreements with Incheon Metropolitan police agency and KoROAD (Korea Road Traffic Authority) this month to built the traffic signal inter-operation system to establish the technical services. The authority will place an order for maintenance service of electronic signal system and communication construction between the month of Feb. to Apr. and complete the project within the month of June.
As an initial project, IFEZ Authority will select 4 axis in the area of Songdo as test zones and have cars pass through the roads without stops with the operation of the traffic signal inter-operation system in Songdo International Business Zone by Feb. It will eventually build 77 inter-operation systems on 77 crossroads throughout the area of Songdo and construct related facilities in the traffic information center.
The authority plans to increase efficiency of the system through cooperation with the interagency partners such as each district police agencies, KoROAD and other traffic related agencies by enabling sustainable monitering system upon completion of the traffic signal inter-operation system.
IFEZ authority official states that "The traffic signal inter-operation system will result in the reduction of traffic accidents due to negligence of the traffic signals and bring about improvements in traffic flow upon completion of the system in the area of Songdo."
