The National Museum of World Writing Systems: Inscribed with the Timeless Nature of Letters
After strolling around Songdo Central Park, why not head over to a special place that is unique to Songdo? The National Museum of World Writing Systems opened in Songdo in June 2023 after a 10-year period of preparation. The museum specializes in writing systems and stands as only the third of its kind in the world, following the Champollion Museum – The Writings of the World in France and the National Museum of Chinese Writing in China. This extraordinary place embodies the history of time and space, from the invention of the first written language to the present and future, presented through exhibits, research, education, and more. The Permanent Exhibition Hall, under the theme of “The Great Journey of Letters and Civilization,” highlights world alphabets, literate cultures, and civilizations from the perspective of comparative culture, while the Special Exhibition Hall presents various letter-related exhibits. In particular, the exhibit on Gustave Doré, to be offered in May this year, is attracting a lot of attention.
