The Fantasy of Incheon Begins at Sunset

Unforgettable Sunset and Night View Spots

As Korea’s first night tourism city, Incheon received this title last year from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. In line with this, Incheon has launched campaigns selecting sunset and night view spots. Check out some of the hot spots selected among the 24-view attractions in Songdo, Gaehangjang, and Wolmido, as voted on by citizens and tourists.

01. Central Park

Central Park is Songdo’s representative landmark. As the first seawater park in Korea, it covers an area of 63,390 ㎡ and is 1.8 km long. A freshwater canal runs through the middle of the park. The long promenade and wide lake offer perfect relaxation in the middle of the city, while the crescent-moon-shaped boat that swims on the lake at night creates a mysterious element cutting through the darkness. This park is famous for its beautiful ambience after dark, earning it the top spot in this poll. You can also enjoy the quiet night scenery of the Hanok Village on the other side of Central Park.

02. Long Beach Park

In December last year, a new sunset spot, Songdo Landmark City No. 1 Waterside Park, was unveiled in Songdo International City. This park, created at the end of Songdo Zone 8, is also called Long Beach Park because of the long promenade running along the beach. The ocean view facing the benches and observatory here will give you time and space for healing. Take advantage of the sunset when planning to visit the park. The sun, throwing glitter across the sea, starts to lean over Incheon Bridge before painting the whole world in sunset shades.

03. Wolmi Theme Park

Incheon’s representative tourist destination, Wolmido, is always crowded with people. Among the top sites is a place that truly symbolizes Wolmido’s atmosphere full of laughter and joyful sounds. Wolmi Theme Park has various rides, such as Disco Pangpang and the Viking. You may lose track of time at this small but perfectly assorted theme park, but don’t be disappointed when you realize that the sun is already setting. Instead, take a few memorable shots from the colorfully lit merry-go-round and Ferris wheel.

04. Open port

With the opening of Jemulpo Port, foreign cultures first started pouring in and mixing with others in Gaehangjang. Even today, buildings rich with long histories and emotional tales can be found on every street. As you walk along Gaehangjang Street, which retains the old scenery, you will be greeted by unique shops, such as workshops, photo studios, prop shops, and antique cultural assets. Walking along this street, especially at night, you will feel as if you have gone on a romantic trip through time. Kwandong Church, with impressive red bricks, and Munhaksomaejeom, a charming bookstore, are particularly famous for their uniquely beautiful night views.

05. Triple Street

As its name implies, Triple Street is a shopping complex built around three main streets. This shopping mall is divided into Ground Street, a shopping street with fashion stores; Under Street, full of mouth-watering restaurants; and Park Street, built on the roof as a place for taking a break. The ceiling of the four zones (A, B, C, and D) lined up side by side is decorated with the Wave Sky, which expresses the sky path with colorful paper. Visitors can enjoy leisurely shopping while looking at this splendid sky road. As the sun sets, head up to the rooftop garden in Area D, where a wonderful sight awaits you.

06. Tribowl

Standing tall on one side of Central Park, the Tribowl shows off its presence with a unique curved design. The building, standing upside down on the bottom of a wide pond, demands people’s attention. The Incheon Foundation for Arts and Culture uses the Tribowl as a cultural art complex, with the circular performance hall and multi-purpose hall inside regularly serving as the stage for various cultural events. At night, the exterior of the building casts a soft blue light on the pond, creating an atmosphere to rival a scene from a science-fiction movie.

07. G Tower

The G Tower, IFEZ’s main building, was built in 2013. It plays a central role in the business of Songdo International City, as various international organizations, along with IFEZ, Incheon City Hall, and UN-affiliated organizations, are located within it. During the day, the building is mainly used as a space for business, while at night, it becomes a stage for capturing the night views of Songdo. In particular, from the Sky Garden on the 29th floor and the Public Relations Hall observatory on the 33rd floor, which are over 100 m

off the ground, you can look down upon the city with a view centered around Central Park and POSCO Tower Songdo.

08. Wolmisan Mountain

Wolmido is full of exciting spots. It’s culture street is lined with delicious restaurants and pretty cafes, while the theme park allows visitors to enjoy various rides and to overlook the scenery of the West Sea while riding the monorail. However, the true charm of Wolmido shines even brighter at night. As the sun goes down and darkness falls, the various lights of Wolmido come together to form a fantastic setting. There is an observatory on Wolmisan Mountain, which rises gently at the center of Wolmido. You can enjoy the splendid night view there while sipping on a coffee at the observatory cafe.

09. Jayu Park

As you walk through Chinatown, you will soon find yourself arriving at Jayu Park. Surrounding the low Eungbongsan Mountain (with a height of 69 m), this place became Korea’s first modern western-style park. The park is also well known for the statue of General MacArthur standing dignifiedly in the middle. In spring, the cherry blossoms come into full bloom, creating spectacular views across the park, while the observatory overlooking Incheon Port presents a famous night scene. There is one more hidden point to mention: when you climb the stairs leading from the side street of the parking lot at night, your heart will surely go aflutter with the soft lighting that surrounds you in warmth and wonder.
