1. Phase 2 Construction Project of Art Center Incheon Passes First Stage of Central Investment Review

The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority (IFEZ) announced that the "Phase 2 Construction Project of Art Center Incheon" has conditionally passed the Central Investment Review for Local Government Finance conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. This paves the way for the Phase 2 Construction Project to proceed in full swing. Scheduled for completion and opening in 2029, the project aims to complete a multifunctional cultural complex that, in addition to the concert hall opened in 2018, will include an opera house and an Art & Tech Center. With the completion of Phase 2, Art Center Incheon is expected to emerge as a cultural and arts hub in Incheon. With its direct connection to transportation and tourism infrastructures such as the GTX-B and the Waterfront, it is well-positioned to emerge as key cultural landmark in the international city of Incheon.

2. Songdo Waterfront Recognized as Key Infrastructure for Strengthening Climate Resilience

Coastal areas are particularly vulnerable to flooding during heavy rains, as drainage is impeded when high tides coincide with heavy rainfall. Currently, Songdo International City (27.66 km²) has a detention capacity of approximately 5.5 million m³; however, the expansion of the watershed area after development raised concerns about severe flooding in the event of intense rainfall. In response, IFEZ intends to conduct Phase 2 of the Waterfront project by constructing a square channel which will increase the stormwater storage capacity of the detention basins. The project is designed to provide a total detention capacity of 9.35 million cubic meters, enabling greater rainfall retention and greater control of seawater intrusion to mitigate flood risks. With increasing concerns around global warming, the Songdo Waterfront is recognized as a key infrastructure for strengthening the city’s resilience.
