January 5, 2026 Marks the Opening of a New Way Forward for IFEZ
For a long time, the sea surrounding Incheon functioned as a boundary between islands and the mainland. However, very soon, a new bridge will rise over these waters, redefining how daily life in the city is connected. This is the 3rd Landing Bridge, which links Jungsan-dong in Jung-gu with Cheongna-dong in Seo-gu. With a total length of 4.68 kilometers, a width of 30 meters, and six lanes for two-way traffic, the bridge is scheduled to open on January 5, 2026, and will be the only one among the three bridges serving Yeongjong International City to feature both pedestrian walkways and bicycle lanes. With its opening, the 3rd Landing Bridge is expected to emerge as a tourist landmark attracting global attention that goes beyond its role as a mere transportation facility. The highlight of the bridge is its marine observation deck, soaring to a height of 184.2 meters. It sets a new global record for marine bridge observatories, standing 56 meters taller than the Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory (128 meters) in the U.S. state of Maine. Having earned certification from the World Record Committee (WRC) in the United States for the World’s Highest Marine Bridge Observation Deck, the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority (IFEZ) is preparing for its listing in Guinness World Records (GWR) to coincide with the bridge’s opening. Now, the bridge stands ready to emerge as a new landmark for Incheon. The observation deck offers a breathtaking panorama, where the skylines of Cheongna and Yeongjong International City merge with the West Sea. In fair weather, visitors can see even N Seoul Tower and Lotte World Tower at a glance. Another highlight is the “Edge Walk,” which will come into operation following the bridge’s opening. Wearing safety equipment, visitors can walk along the exterior of the observation deck at a height of 180 meters and take in the sweeping cityscape of Incheon stretching out beneath their feet. Such a thrilling adventure, rarely found anywhere else in the world, is set to unfold at the 3rd Landing Bridge.
The 3rd Landing Bridge: Where Aesthetics Meets Practicality
The 3rd Landing Bridge stands out for its architectural significance. It features a gate-shaped cable-stayed structure, a design rarely seen worldwide. The main pylons are clad in white, inspired by the color of Palmido Lighthouse which is the symbol of Incheon. Meanwhile, the bridge deck is rendered in gray, evoking a vision of a high-tech future and seamlessly embedding the city’s identity into the structure. Its unique structural aesthetics and refined color scheme are expected to make Incheon’s skyline stand out around the clock. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the bridge was designed with consideration for the public’s everyday use . Alongside the roadway, it features pedestrian walkways and bicycle lanes measuring 3.5 to 4 meters in width, providing a car-free environment for movement between the two ends. Going forward, IFEZ plans to further enhance the bridge’s value as a tourism asset by creating a 125,000-square-meter tourism-oriented theme park on Yeongjong Island and a 132,000-square-meter cultural and tourism waterfront park in Cheongna, centered on the observation deck, Edge Walk, and bicycle lanes.
