The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority announced the opening of the "MarineUGent Korea," a branch of the Marine Research Institute affiliated with Ghent University in Belgium, at the Incheon Global Campus (IGC) in Songdo.
MarineUGent Korea plans to promote various marine research and development (R&D) initiatives, foster new industries, and commercialize bio and environmental-related technologies while nurturing global talent.
Established in 2012, the MarineUGent research institute is recognized as a world-leading research institution in fields such as marine science, environmental studies, and bio-convergence research, with over 500 professors and researchers.
The opening of the MarineUGent research institute in Incheon's Songdo is expected to play a significant role as a global anchor institution for marine research in South Korea. It is anticipated to contribute greatly to global industry-academia cooperation, the creation of a blue bio cluster, and South Korea's advancement as a leading maritime nation.
