On Thursday, October 11, 2018, Merck, Germany, a leading science and technology company, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the 'Korea Life Sciences Operation Headquarters' in Songdo International City. Merck is a full-fledged investment of KRW 26 billion in business expenses. It is a facility investment business to supply cell culture media and provide related technology services to Songdo, Korea's affiliates such as Samsung Bio Logics, Celltrion, and nearby biopharmaceutical manufacturing and research and development companies. The facility to be built is a manufacturing and auxiliary facility with a total floor area of 8,319㎡ consisting of one floor underground and five stories above the ground on a 10,141㎡ site. In addition, when the facility is completed in May 2019, Merck plans to gradually expand investment in strengthening Korea's life sciences business capacity centered on Songdo, integrating the domestic life science business into Songdo.
