On Saturday, October 6, 2012, IFEZ held the opening ceremony of the Canal Way in Cheongna International City. The Canal Way was developed as waterfront infrastructure at a cost of KRW 70 billion (approximately USD 62 million), with an east-west length of 3 kilometers, a north-south length of 1.5 kilometers, a width of 8 to 10 meters, and a depth of 1 to 1.5 meters. It was equipped with water purification facilities, a navigation lock, and ecological environmental facilities. The project also linked the 700,000㎡ Central Lake Park with Gongchoncheon Stream and Simgokcheon Stream, reinforcing the identity of Cheongna International City as a “city of water” and laying the foundation for enhanced waterfront scenery and tourism and leisure functions.
