On Monday, April 29, 2013, the Korea Polar Research Institute held a completion ceremony for its new building in Songdo International City. The complex was built on a 35,887㎡ site with a total floor area of 21,525㎡ and consists of four buildings: the main building, research building, polar support building, and dormitory. Construction was completed after 3 years and 4 months from the start of design in 2010, with a total investment of KRW 42.6 billion (approximately USD 37.6 million). The Korea Polar Research Institute is South Korea’s specialized polar research institution studying climate change, oceans, life sciences, and geology in the Arctic and Antarctic.
