On Friday, March 28, 2014, Incheon Metropolitan City and the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority signed a business agreement and land sale contract with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Incheon Foundation for the development of the Incheon Catholic University Songdo International City Global Education and Research Campus. The signing ceremony, held at G-Tower, was attended by Song Yeong-gil, Mayor of Incheon Metropolitan City, Lee Jong-cheol, Commissioner of the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, and Bishop Choe Gi-san, Chair of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Incheon Foundation. The foundation planned to invest approximately KRW 100 billion (approximately USD 93 million) in a 40,000㎡ site in District 5 of Songdo International City to develop an international kindergarten, language institute, international exchange center, industry-academia-research center, research institutes, graduate school of formative arts, and graduate school of theology in phases, with the first opening scheduled for March 2017 and full opening targeted for 2020.
