On Thursday, June 20, 2013, Amkor Korea held the groundbreaking ceremony for its Global R&D Center and K5 site in Songdo International City. Amkor Korea is a semiconductor packaging and test company, and this groundbreaking marked the starting point for establishing an advanced semiconductor research, development, and production base. The project is to be developed in phases with an investment of KRW 1.5 trillion (approximately USD 1.31 billion) through 2019, and the site will be operated as a global production base integrating manufacturing and test lines.
