On October 11, 2018 (Thursday), Germany’s Merck broke ground on its Korea Life Science Operations Headquarters in Songdo International City. Merck plans to invest a total of KRW 26 billion (approximately USD 22.9 million) to build a cell culture media manufacturing facility and related support facilities, which will supply products and provide technical services to biopharmaceutical manufacturing and research companies in Songdo International City and nearby areas, including Samsung Biologics and Celltrion. The facility will be built on a 10,141-square-meter site with a total floor area of 8,319 square meters, consisting of one basement level and five above-ground floors. After completion in May 2019, Merck plans to consolidate its life science business functions in Korea in Songdo.
