On March 8, 2006 (Wednesday), the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) and New Songdo City Development, LLC (NSIC) held the groundbreaking ceremony for Songdo International School in the International Business District of Songdo International City. About 300 key figures from Korea and abroad attended the event, including the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economy, the Mayor of Incheon Metropolitan City, and the Chairman of Gale International Korea. Songdo International School will be built on a site of about 21,600 pyeong with a capacity for 2,100 students, and will include kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school programs, along with a digital library, media center, and swimming pool. The school is scheduled to open in September 2008.
