On June 16, 2006 (Friday), related organizations involved in the Incheon Bridge construction project held a girder lifting ceremony at the offshore construction section to mark the first anniversary of the groundbreaking. The event took place about six kilometers offshore between Yeongjong International City and Songdo International City, where a bridge deck measuring 50 meters in length and weighing 1,400 tons was lifted and installed onto piers using a 3,000-ton heavy-duty crane. Incheon Bridge, with a total length of 12.3 kilometers and six traffic lanes, was under construction with completion targeted for October 2009, and it is expected to become a key regional transportation link connecting Incheon International Airport and Songdo International City.
