On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Yonsei University held a groundbreaking ceremony for the K-Bio Lab Hub at the construction site within Yonsei University International Campus in Songdo International City. This event was organized to mark the full-scale establishment of a comprehensive bio-startup support infrastructure and to reinforce commitment to the advancement of South Korea's bio industry. With a total project cost of approximately KRW 224 billion (approximately USD 166 million), the facility will be built as an education and research facility spanning a site area of 13,169 square meters and a total floor area of 20,375 square meters, featuring one basement level and nine above-ground stories, with completion targeted for January 2029. Upon completion, approximately 60 small and medium-sized bio ventures are expected to move in, receiving end-to-end support from candidate substance discovery to clinical trials and investment attraction, thereby propelling the region into a global bio hub.
